What could be better a whole week of Yoga/Pilates, Barr, Zumba and healthy food. Of course with some lovely Rose after all the hard work in the evening. An enchanted eco friendly home, amazing staff, the best cook I have ever encountered and a group of incredible diverse women all thrown together in the middle of the Spanish desert.
Classes where held in a specially built Dojo overlooking a beautiful veranda. Meals where served on numerous terraces with amazing views across grape vine laden fields and despite the hot temperatures and flies a great pool to jump into to cool down. Add massages to the mix, I had three, and I have to say ‘relaxing’ is my new mantra.
We came in all shapes, sizes, ages and different abilities. No judgement ever. Kinga our exercise instructor a Hungarian Athlete worked everyone as hard as they wanted (or as little as they wanted). And despite eating the fresh, healthy, glorious food served up 3 times a day, by Katie the best cook I have ever come across, I came away toned, and fighting fit. (Did I mention the lovely Rose with the evening meal?)
Having never been away on a retreat before with only women, made me realise that when you put a group of women together, whatever their differences in ages and backgrounds that we can all come together and share problems, laughter, thoughts and inspirations and relax into just being who we are.
No makeup, no perfect hair, no perfect bodies, latest fashions or handbags, just letting it all hang out is quite a change from every day life. Realising none of us leads the perfect life, and that we are all just getting by with the ups and down of life really grounds you and frees you up. To realise that as women we can share and be honest with each other is so important to our well being.
It’s so good for you to just stop every now and then and take charge whether on a retreat or with a group of women anywhere and take a few days to recharge yourself away from every day rush of our lives. It’s so exhilarating to step away from our phones and computers and just talk and laugh and share.
So of course, we all need to exercise, and eat healthy fresh clean food, but add female friendship, laughter and shared problems and experience to the mix and ‘live younger longer’.
